About Garage Doors

Garage doors for San Diego county homes come in a wide variety. With our overall mild climate most people don't think much about how a garage door protects their home. Single-layer steel garage doors have a single sheet of galvanized steel. Normally, these are the most economical garage door.

Double-layer steel garage doors have a galvanized steel skin on the outside with a thick layer of either polystyrene or polyurethane as a backer. The backer provides soundproofing and additional insulating value to the door.

Triple-layer garage doors are made of the same materials as double-layer doors with the addition of a galvanized skin on the inside to protect the backer layer of polystyrene / polyurethane from damage. Triple-layer doors are the strongest, most secure and most soundproof of all garage doors. They are also available with thicker insulation for greater thermal resistance. If you are in the mountains in San Diego, the Triple-layer garage doors would normally be recommended.

Glass garage doors are not as common as wood or steel garage doors. They are harder to manufacture and almost always customized.
